Frequently asked questions
The questions parents ask most, by topic. Per-course questions live on each course page.
Practical
How old does my child need to be?
We run courses for ages 7–18, organised into four age bands. Pick your child's band on the courses page and choose from there.
Does my child need any experience?
No. Every band starts with a Step 1 that assumes zero experience, and faster kids get extra challenges so nobody is bored or lost.
Do they need their own laptop?
No — equipment is provided in class. Older students use their own accounts (with consent) for tools like GitHub where the course needs it.
How big are the groups?
Deliberately small, so every child gets attention. For ages 7–9 there are two adults in every room.
What does a term look like?
Thirteen weekly sessions: three sprints of building, then a live showcase where your child demonstrates what they made.
Price & grants
What does it cost?
Exact prices are shown per age band on the pricing page — no surprises. The first lesson is always a free trial, so you can try before you pay.
Can I use frístundastyrkur / frístundakortið?
We tailor course length to your municipality's frístundastyrkur grant. (Grant registration isn't in place yet — ask us where it stands.) Amounts differ by municipality and change yearly — see the pricing page.
Are there sibling or multi-course discounts?
Yes — the second sibling pays 25.000 kr per semester; the first child and any third or further sibling pay the standard course price. Full details on the pricing page.
How do I pay?
By bank transfer (millifærsla) once you decide to continue after the free trial. We confirm everything by email first.
AI & safety
Will my under-13 use ChatGPT?
No. Under-13s never use chatbots here — they learn how AI works with account-free tools and teacher-led demos.
When do students get real AI accounts?
At 13+, only with your signed consent, on school-managed and capped access.
Are you teaching kids to cheat with AI?
The opposite — they learn the difference between AI as a tutor and AI as a ghostwriter, with rules they help write.
Are instructors vetted?
A criminal-record certificate (sakavottorð) is available on request. (Background-check policy confirmed at hiring.)
Valgrein (school credit)
Which courses count as valgrein?
Our 13–15 (AI Developers) courses are packaged for valgrein elective credit. Each course page shows whether it is valgrein-eligible.
How does the credit actually work?
We report attendance and issue a term certificate your child's school can recognise as elective credit. Ask us for the details your school needs.
Can younger or older bands get credit too?
Valgrein applies to the 13–15 band. For other ages the value is the project, portfolio and showcase rather than school credit.
Summer camps
Do you run summer camps?
Yes — week-long themed AI camps (training models, generative AI, chatbots, AI games, machine learning, and more). The full schedule opens later; join the list on the summer camps page.
How are camps different from courses?
A camp week compresses one sprint from a course into an intensive format — same hooks, same kind of showcase, shorter timeline.
When can I book?
Dates and booking open ahead of the season. Sign up to the summer list and we'll tell you first.
